BIG’s Certification Centre in Virginia

With speeds approaching 1,000 km/h, the Hyperloop could one day replace domestic flights. Hyperloop passengers hurtle through subterranean vacuum tubes in streamlined capsules on magnetic rails. After carrying out a successful test run with passengers in 2020 in a 500-m experimental tube in the Nevada desert, the Virgin Hyperloop company plans to start building the Virgin Hyperloop Certification Centre in Tucker County, West Virginia, in 2022. The test track is to be 6 miles long. The reception building, which will house the maintenance halls, was designed by Danish architects Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Specialists from around the world will determine the safety standards and technical codes required for serial operation of the ultra-high-speed transportation system. Company directors are striving for approval by 2025, and market introduction is planned for 2030.
