Müllerbräu in Pfaffenhofen

The brewery has been an integral part of the Upper Bavarian town of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm for over 250 years. With the opening of the Sudhaus brewery restaurant in 2024, the family-owned company is making a clear statement about its future. The new building, located at the western end of the historic main square, houses a restaurant, banquet hall, and event brewery, replacing the dilapidated former building. Only the listed front building has been preserved and renovated in the original style, and it continues to mark the entrance.

Studio Frick designed a spacious dining area spanning around 2,000 m², which seamlessly connects production and experience. The central hall is flanked by brewing equipment and storage tanks, enabling visitors to witness the brewing process first-hand. To offset the dominance of stainless steel surfaces, the design incorporates a clear contrast of materials: untreated oak, fabrics in earth tones, acoustic panels made of wood wool, and a matt industrial floor come together to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Steel arches, reaching heights of up to ten metres, provide the design motif, drawing parallels with the historic brewery passageways. Filled with fine perforated sheet metal, the arches structure the space and divide it into three areas: a stage, a restaurant and a bar. A gallery containing a training room, café and a second bar extends the facilities on offer.

All the furniture and fittings were created in collaboration with local craft businesses. Custom-made elements, such as a pendant lamp featuring the brewery logo and specially adapted chairs incorporating the arch motif, bring the project to a close by combining tradition with contemporary design.
