Renewable Energy for Small Italian Islands

The international competition aims to encourage the search for solutions which succeed in combining the use of components and plant systems to generate electric and/or thermal energy from renewable (or inexhaustible) energy sources – sun, wind, high-enthalpy geothermal energy, tides, currents and waves – with protection of the environment and of the typical architecture and landscape of small islands and marine protected areas of Italy.
It is open to different categories of entrants, is intended to stimulate the design of devices or plants of different size and capacity, which will optimize the use of natural energy resources and reconcile local development needs with enhancement of the landscape heritage. The call for entries has been published in May 2013. The competition is part of a three-year Memorandum of Understanding signed between GSE - Energy Services Operator, Department of Culture, Department of Environment and Sea, MAREVIVO, CITERA (Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Territory, Building, Restoring, Environment – University of Rom La Sapienza) and ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable development).
