The 2012 Summer Olympics in London are a great topic in British press. “Building Design” reported on May, 21st that seven leading architects have been appointed to join the team designing the £2 billion London Athletes Village among an improved focus on design quality.

Athletes Village developer Lend Lease announced that the IOC, the Olympic International Committee, has chosen Rijke Marsh Morgan, DSDHA, Denton Corker Marshall, Eric Parry, Ian Ritchie, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and Caruso St John to join the highly-ambitious project. Landscape architect Vogt from the Dutch firm West 8 in assisting Patel Taylor and Fletcher Priest are assigned with masterplanning the scenic design. More than 15 architectural and landscape design teams have so far been engaged by Lend Lease to work on different aspects of the project, ranging from courtyard housing with communal gardens to 30-storey residential towers overlooking the Olympic Park. The Athlete Village will arise on the area of the 200 hectare Olympic Park at the river Lea, the sport sites will be found further upstream. Altogether there will emerge accommodation for 17.320 athletes and functionaries of the Olympic Games and 8.756 for those of the Paralympics. After the Olympics they should be converted into about 4.000 apartments and houses.
