Our Favourites: Three high-rising buildings by OMA
First there is »La Torre« for the Fondazione Prada, situated on Largo Isarco in Milan, then we have the residential tower »Norra Tornen«, which is in the Swedish Capital Stockholm, and finally the first work by Rem Koolhaas, an exhibition tower in Paris.
A Beacon for Art: The new tower by OMA at Fondazione Prada
At a height of 60 metres, Torre rises above the arts complex at Largo Isarco in Milan like a beacon for art, visible from afar. The new building completes the transformation of the former gin distillery according to OMA’s plans.
Client: Fondazione Prada
Architecture: OMA Rem Koolhaas, Chris van Duijn, Federico Pompignoli
Location: Largo Isarco 2, 2139 Milan (IT)
Homey Brutalism
With the Norra Tornen high-rise in Stockholm, OMA invoke the fascination with the future inherent in the Modern. The exterior may appear to be a provocation, but the apartments within are surprisingly homey.
Architecture: OMA
Location: Torsplan 8, 113 65 Stockholm (SE)
Koolhaas in Paris: The Machine behind the Machine
From the street, visitors cannot tell that the freshly remodelled former industrial building is actually the first work by Rem Koolhaas in Paris. The inner courtyard of 9 rue de Plâtre has it all: with just two separable, moveable platforms, the new exhibition tower can be adjusted to create 49 different spatial configurations.
Architecture: OMA, Rem Koolhaas
Location: Paris (FR)
