DETAIL English 2010/2: Concrete Construction
The new museum of contemporary art in Herning, Denmark, and the just-completed MAXXI cultural centre in Rome are currently two of the high-profile realisations in concrete. They express different characteristics of the material. Concrete's appearance is also adaptable, ranging from a velvety gloss, via sensual rawness, to a textured skin.
DETAIL German/English 2010/3: Small-Scale Housing
"Small Residential Housing" seem to contradict the current ambition to build sustainably, at first glance. Only after more storeys and larger communities that are closer together with the common usage of infrastructure and the realisation of an ecological concept can energy and surface usage be minimised. In the current edition of DETAIL, the lead article demonstrates the most important aspects of sustainable housing developments.
A square world: the “Water cube” by MVRDV
After Aichi in 2005 and Shanghai 2010, yet another World Exhibition will be staged in Asia. “The Living Ocean and Coast” is the theme of the 2012 International Exposition in Yeosu, South Korea. It asks for a greater recognition and awareness of the oceans and marine resources, and their importance to mankind.
Event Suggestion
On April 15 and 16, 2010, Budapest will be the venue of this year’s „Build Green CEE“ congress. The event, which is organized in collaboration with the region’s Green Building council, aims to provide a broad overview of recent developments in sustainable construction in Central and Eastern Europe.
