Diller Scofidio + Renfro
Founded in 1981 by Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio (centre right, who passed away in 2025), the New York practice is known for its cultural buildings, art installations, and multimedia works. Today, its 100-member team of architects, artists, and researchers is led by Diller, Charles Renfro (left), and Benjamin Gilmartin (centre left). In Manhattan, DS+R advanced pedestrian-oriented urbanism in 2019 with the High Line and staged the stair as a facade element at the Vagelos Education Center; in London, it introduced a new museum typology with the V&A East Storehouse. Many of DS+R’s works, such as The Shed in New York or the minaret of the Al-Mujadilah Center in Doha, stand out as both social spaces and kinetic art installations.
