etal.

The architecture practice etal. (derived from the Latin et aliter) was founded by Gesche Bengtsson (left), Elena Masla (right), and Zora Syren (centre). For its co-founders, design is a participatory process shaped by collaborative methods and close exchange with all involved in building practice. After studying architecture together at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and gaining experience in Copenhagen, Munich, and Berlin, they established etal. in Munich in 2021. Their first built project, the multigenerational house on Görzerstrasse in Munich, presents clear responses to the themes that define their work: adaptable spaces, a critical reassessment of established standards, and a sensitive engagement with existing structures. Their work moves between practice, research, and teaching. In the 2026 summer semester, etal. will hold the Wüstenrot Foundation visiting professorship at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
